6 actresses who met with tragic endings

They came, they saw, they conquered and they left us suddenly. It’s sad that few of our actresses had abrupt ending to their life.  We can also easily say that the void left by them cannot be replaced. We list down few actresses whose fate met with a tragic end.

Meena Kumari

Meena Kumari joined the industry as a child actor and worked in almost 90 films in a career spanning 30 years. She is still known for her roles in films like Parineeta, Baiju Baawra, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam and Pakeezah. She passed away on March 31, 1972 just three weeks after the release of her iconic role Pakeezah as she was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. The iconic actress finished the shooting of the film in bad health conditions. It’s also said that there was no money to pay her hospital bills.

Madhubala
Is there any one more beautiful than her? Her thousand watt smile could brighten up even your darkest days. Her affair with Dilip Kumar and the heartbreak that she suffered from the superstar was the talk of the town back then. In 1954, she was diagnosed with terminal congenital heart condition. It is said that she was bed ridden for almost eight years before succumbing to death in 1968.

Smita Patil
Smita Patil was the queen of art cinema in the 80s’ along with her rival Shabana Azmi. Her performances in films like Bhumika, Arth, Ardh Satya were proof that she was there to stay for a long time. Smita Patil also did commercial films and is till date remembered for them. Who can forget Aaj rapat jaaye from Namak Halal? There were news about her turbulent relationship with her husband Raj Babbar (Smita was his second wife after Nadira). She passed away in 1986 due to complications during child birth.

Parveen Babi
This 80s’ sex siren had an ugly end to her life. Parveen Babi was always attacked by the media for her relationship with Mahesh Bhatt. However once the relationship ended she suffered from schizophrenia and flew to New York in 1983. She returned to India in 1989 but always lived in irrational fear. She was found dead in her house on January 22, 2005 after the society secretary found that she had not collected milk and newspaper for the past three days. It was said that she had gangrene of the left foot.

Divya Bharti
In just a span of two years this, newcomer gave top actresses sleepless nights. Divya Bharti did 12 films in these two years and a majority of them were box-office hits. Deewana, Vishwatma, Balwan, Shola Aur Shabnam to name a few. However on April 5 1993, Divya accidentally fell off from the window of her fifth storey apartment where she lived with her husband Sajid Nadiawala. This marked an end of a superstar in the making. We can’t imagine where this actress would’ve reached in the industry if she had lived longer…

Jiah Khan
Last year the industry was rocked with the shocking news of Jiah Khan’s death on June 3, 2013. This dusky actress’s death sent the media into a tizzy. She committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan; some also say that it was her failing career that led her to this move. Her mother Rabia Khan said that she had problems with her boyfriend, Sooraj Pancholi which made her desperate to take this move.
