Lori Vallow Daybell pleads not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder charges in Arizona

Lori Vallow Daybell on Thursday, just months removed from her conviction in the murders of her children and the wife of a man she then married, went before a judge in an Arizona courtroom to face charges in the death of her estranged husband and the attempted murder of her niece's ex-husband.

Shackled and clad in a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office inmate jumpsuit with "MCSO UNSENTENCED" stenciled onto the back, Vallow's only words in the courtroom were her two responses when the judge asked for her full name and date of birth - far fewer words than were said during a bizarre speech to an Idaho court before she was sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of Joshua "JJ" Vallow, Tylee Ryan, and Tammy Daybell.

"Not guilty" pleas were entered on her behalf in both Arizona cases, which will be tried concurrently.

She's accused of plotting the shooting death of her then-husband, Charles Vallow, who had filed for divorce. He was killed by Lori Vallow's brother, Alex Cox, who gunned down Lori Vallow's fourth husband in Phoenix, telling authorities he shot in self-defense.

Cox was not charged in the case and later died of natural causes. Specifics on his death have not been released by family members or authorities.

The shooting was later deemed premeditated, and a grand jury indicted Lori Vallow in 2021 for Charles Vallow's death.

The second charge, conspiracy to commit murder, was lodged against Lori Vallow after a shot was fired from a moving vehicle at Brandon Boudreaux, who was married to Lori's neice.

The second incident came about three months after Charles Vallow was killed, and investigators say Cox was the likely gunman in that one, as well.

Lori Vallow is scheduled to go to trial on April 4, 2024 - just one week shy of the beginning of her first murder trial.

Additional pretrial hearings have been scheduled for January, February and March in 2024.
