Juan Gabriel was a Mexican singer and songwriter best known for the album, Recuerdos, Vol. II. He was rated among Latin America’s top-selling artist with over 100 million records sold worldwide. Gabriel was born Alberto Aguilera Valadez on January 7, 1950 in Paracuaro, Mexico. His father died when he was young, and his mother worked as a housekeeper. He had 9 siblings.
CAREER
Gabriel spent his early years at a boarding school where he discovered his love for music. He wrote his first song at the age of 13 and began performing locally under the alias Adan Luna. Gabriel moved to Mexico City and eventually landed a recording contract with RCA Records. His debut album, El Alma Joven, was released in 1971 and featured the hit single “No Tengo Dinero”. The album was certified gold by the AMPROFON. Popular songs by Gabriel includes “Hasta Que Te Conoci”, “Amor Eterno”, and “Querida”. Gabriel made his big screen debut in Nobleza ranchera (1975) alongside Sara García and Veronica Castro. Other film appearances include El Noa Noa (1980), and Es Mi Vida (1982).
Gabriel released upwards of 30 studio albums between 1971 and 2016. He’s sold millions of records and landed multiple Grammy Award nominations. He was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1996, and his star was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.

Juan Gabriel died on August 28, 2016 at the age of 66. His reported cause of death was heart attack. He was also battling diabetes. Gabriel performed at the Forum in Los Angeles prior to his death.
