DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — The BYU Cougarettes dance team won the National College Dance Team title during a competition held here in April — their fourth championship in the past five years.

The Cougarettes, directed by Jodi Maxfield, were also awarded the title of Grand Champions as they received the highest score (9.70) in any dance category. North Carolina State was second with a 9.40.

Each year more than 5,000 college students from more than 180 colleges and universities across the country compete for national recognition in both cheerleading and dance team during the National Collegiate Dance Team and Cheerleading Competition. Schools are chosen to participate by video tape audition.

The Cougarettes have existed at BYU for 55 years and can be seen at all home football and basketball games.
